Difference Between Blink Sync Module 1 vs 2

The Blink Sync Module is the core of Blink home security system. The Blink is owned by Amazon. There are 2 Blink sync modules: sync module 1(original) and sync module 2(latest). What are the differences between these modules?

The Blink sync module 1 came in 2009, whereas Blink sync module 2 came in 2020. The Blink sync module 2 is much more update and user friendly than the blink sync module 1. There are so many differences between these two.

As of now, there are 2 blink sync modules. So, users can choose between these two options. In sync module 2 some feature improvement is noticeable, where sync module 1 was more like a test subject.

1. Design and Installation

Though the Blink sync module 1 and sync module 2 look quite same, Blink sync module 2 comes with so many upgrades.

The Blink sync module 1 does have a USB port, but it is not functionable. The sync module connects with the cloud using an ethernet cable. It does not have a local storage capacity.

On the other side, the Blink sync module 2 has a functionable USB-A port that connects the module with a local storage unit.

The sync module 2 comes with a built-in wi-fi chip that connects it with the cloud. So, you have a flexible installation.

You would like a system that is flexible and have a lot of options, right? Now if you install the Blink sync module 2, you are getting in-built wi-fi in it which will allow you place it anywhere you like. Also, who does not like a wireless system?

2. Camera Capacity and Connectivity

Both the Sync Modules supports up to 10 cameras. The Blink sync 1 provides an ample coverage for most homes. It has a single-band wi-fi connectivity. As this camera connects to a router, it can create an interference with the internet connection.

On the other hand, the Blink Sync Module 2 supports a dual-band Wi-Fi, which allows a better connectivity. As, this camera has a built-in wi-fi system it nulls the interference with the internet connection and provides a better camera performance.

In terms of using an internet connection, the Blink sync module 2 provides an excellent service. You may face connectivity issues while using the old model. 

3. Local Storage and Cloud Subscription

Blink sync module 1 does not have any local storage capacity. It has a USB port though. But this USB port helps it run by electricity using a cable instead of battery power.

The camera fully depends on cloud system. With a minimum subscription fee, you can store a lot of clips on cloud.

On the other hand, Blink sync module 2 has a USB-A port that supports USB storage drives. That way you can save clips locally in the flash drive alongside saving them on cloud.

You can use up-to 256 GB flash drive with at lease 375 MB storage left. You can store a lot footages in blink sync module 2, which is an advantage.

If you consider having blink sync module then I think you should go for the latest one. If you don’t have subscription at least you can store some clips and pictures in your local storage.

4. Enhanced Power Management and Battery Life

The Blink sync module 1 was a test subject of the manufacturer. It was using the primary level batteries. Though this module was using an USB port to power it with electricity.

Whereas, the sync module 2 upgraded its battery life by optimizing background activities. It uses 2 AA lithium battery.

The enhanced power management helps the users operate the module with more efficiency. The more battery life means less maintenance. You can power it with power cable as well.

If you like to rely on battery, then I can suggest you go with the latest model.  But if you do not have any issues with the electricity cable power option then you can choose the old model too.

Blink has a mobile app, which plays the vital role managing the sync modules. The Blink sync module 1 came with the app when the app was at primary level. In times the system grew and adapted new versions.

The Blink sync module 2 offers an updated user experience. It gives a smooth access and faster response. You can monitor and navigate easily using the update app on your phone. Android or iOS both system supports the app Giga Secure.
