3 Reasons Why Is Your Ring Doorbell not Ringing Inside
Here are the 3 reasons why is your ring doorbell not ringing inside:
1. Your Ring Doorbell is not Connected to your Wi-Fi Network
This is the most common reason why Ring doorbells don’t ring inside. Make sure that your Ring doorbell is connected to your Wi-Fi network and that the signal is strong.
Ring system uses the home internet to ring the Ring Chime inside your home. The Ring Chime won’t ring if the whole system is offline.
The signal gets weaker if there are multiple devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network. When the available bandwidth gets divided among many devices, the doorbell has a tough time connecting to the Wi-Fi.
Changing to a good router can initially solve the problem and in the worst case changing the internet service provider can solve this issue too.
To check the Wi-Fi status,
- Go to the “Ring app”
- Go to “Menu” > “Devices”
- Select your doorbell
- “Device Health”
- Scroll down to the “Status” to see your Wi-Fi status.
To connect your Ring device to the internet, make sure that it is plugged in and that your Wi-Fi network is working properly.

2. Your Ring Doorbell is not set up Correctly

1. Know your Ring Doorbell and Its Power Source
The ring has two types of doorbells. One is 100% battery powered and another type is hardwired.
If your ring doorbell is 100% battery powered, the doorbell will ring outside the home. And you won’t need any internal Chime Kit. On the other side, if your ring doorbell is a hardwired one, you will need a Chime kit. And the wired Ring doorbell rings inside.
So you have to know first which one you bought. If that is a battery-powered one, not ringing inside is its feature. And if you have the wired ring doorbell, you will need to troubleshoot the 2nd and 3rd steps below.
2. Check Ring Chime Settings
If your Ring Chime is muted from its settings, you won’t get any rings from inside. So you have to make sure your Ring Chime is not muted.
To access the menu,
- Go to the “Ring app”
- Go to “Menu” > “Devices”
- Select your doorbell
- Tap on “Chime Settings”

- Pull the bar to the “MAX” to have a loud ringing sound.

3. Ring the Doorbell and Chime Connection
Verify that both the Ring Doorbell and the Ring Chime are connected to a strong Wi-Fi network. If the Wi-Fi signal is weak, consider moving the devices closer to the router or using Wi-Fi extenders to improve coverage Giga Secure.
Ensure that the Ring Chime is correctly plugged into a functioning electrical outlet. Additionally, make sure the Ring Chime is linked to your Ring Doorbell in the Ring app.

4. Reset your Ring Doorbell
Resetting your Ring doorbell can solve many problems with its internal settings.
To reset the doorbell:
- Locate the screw bottom of the doorbell and make it loose.

- Remove the outer cover plate from the doorbell.
- Locate an orange button along the side of the doorbell.

- To Factory reset the doorbell, press the orange button for 15 seconds.
- You will need the doorbell powered off and then press the button.
- It will start to flash the LED light on the doorbell and it will be flashing for about 30 seconds.
- After that, your doorbell is fully factory reset.
- And you need to re-log into your Ring account to get the doorbell installed properly.
If you have a Ring Video Doorbell Pro, you will need to use a small screwdriver to access the reset button.
You can soft reset the doorbell. It won’t delete and factory reset your doorbell but it sure refreshes the settings.
- Unplug the power cord from your Ring doorbell.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in.
- The Ring doorbell will reboot and your settings will be restored
